After going through our policy with our previous insurer, we realized that our premium was high and had less coverage than that of what a Florida homeowner actually needs. We started to shop around with all the usual big name insurers and almost pulled the trigger until a friend referred us to Southern Oak Insurance. We gave them a call and immediately felt like we were more than just another potential policyholder. After talking with the agent, we were given a quote for a customized homeowner’s insurance policy that was tailored to our exact needs; not some cookie-cutter policy!
Fast forward two years: We finally had to file a claim due to some minor hurricane damage. We were expecting a bottle-neck due to the amount of storm damage that Florida, as a whole, took but we were amazed when our Agent arranged to have someone come out to assess the damage the very next day. Southern Oak was there for us when we needed them. Our Agent even followed up with us a few weeks later to make sure everything was handled to our standards. Fantastic. What else can I say?
Southern Oak has been my insurance company for quite some time. They are always quick to help whenever I am in need. Very friendly and professional staff.
Extremely unhappy and disappointed with the lack of customer service and zero accountability. I had no problem getting my questions answered before signing on but now that I need help, no one knows what to do. I need to know I can rely on my insurance company when things go wrong in my home and they have failed to provide that for me.
I canceled a policy on September 29th 2021. The refund for the unused premium was in excess of $3300. Southern Oak told me a check was mailed on October 5th. On November 5th, I hadn’t received the check. They supposedly stopped payment and mailed another check on November 12th. They have a 30 day wait policy once a check is mailed. To make a long story short, it is December 5th and I have not received my refund. If they stop payment, ANOTHER 30 day wait period is in effect. For me, their 30 day wait policy has exceeded 60 days. 48 days in after I sent them an email expressing my concern, I received a phone call from Southern Oak saying they were sorry and let us know if you don’t get it by xxx. Maybe we can FEDEX it, blah, blah, blah. Bottom line is they have over $3300 of MY money for over 2 months. I am positive IF they were really concerned they could have this money refunded by now. I am on the verge of ANOTHER 30 day wait period. This very frustrating as I needed my money to pay for a new policy. However, that window has closed. BEWARE when dealing with Southern Oak…
I appreciated the extremely quick response to my recent request. I’ve had no issues in the last 10 years that I’ve used this company. Their rates are reasonable.
Completely unprofessional company, I received a notice of cancellation because my agent didn’t submit our signed application. The agent did not respond to repeated calls and messages and when I went to Southern Oak directly all they said is reach out to your agent, to which I explained they were unresponsive. The customer service representative wouldn’t help in any other way than provide the agents contact information which I already had. They need to either reign in their agents or provide customers with other options other than you the proverbial “you figure it out yourself”.
Do Not use Southern Oak! Homeowners in Florida is a disaster. But I have near perfect credit, no claims and my premium was paid in full. My mortgage company sends me a letter in December 2021 that I have no insurance and they are purchasing Ins for me at nearly triple the rate. I call Southern Oaks, they said they cancelled my policy in March 2021 bc they never received proof of prior ins from my insurance broker. I asked, well why didnt you notify me and I would have provided it to you? Their answer was…. By law, we don’t have to!!! Besides costing me $5000 they also advise me I can never be insured by Southern Oaks ever again. That of course would never be a problem. Disgusting behavior!
Completed application and my mortgage company had paid premium. Couple weeks later, I get a notice from Southern Oak in the mail that I needed to submit a form. I had to search their site for the form, sign it, and send it in. A couple weeks later, same thing with another miscellaneous form. At this point I called them to complain about getting these additional forms that should have been included in the original application packet. They assured that that was it. A couple weeks later, another notice arrives stating that they need a hand written statement on yet another form. Being frustrated, I didn’t send it back right away. A short time later, I got a policy cancellation notice and a refund check. Keep in mind, I never received a single phone call or email from Southern Oak during this entire time. It was obvious they were trying to run me off.
