I have been a Nationwide Customer for a good few years. Last October the plumbing in the downstairs toilet leaked, causing a lot of damage downstairs. I claimed nearly £2,600 on my home insurance policy. Nationwide refused to pay for the plumbing repairs, and offered me a £1,000 less for the damage – slightly more if I went to Carpet Right! (Sharp practice) It is now the end of March 2019 and I am waiting for the Insurance Ombudsman to make a decision.

Had unfortunately the need to make a claim for watersports equipment 01/02/21 this had been taken from and with the locked roof bars from my vehicle. After recording my claim the nationwide rep stated that I had no cover because the items were not locked inside the vehicle and out of sight, a bit hard with a 14.5 foot sea kayak and a similar sized SUP. I explained that these items were covered by the Out and about extra cover, extra cost, she said no this did not apply nor did my sports goods cover or personal possessions away from home.

Referred to under writers, James contacted me pointing out that all the e-mails I received to make my decision to use nationwide were irrelevant and that if I had gone online I would have seen that they have a totally different wording than they send to the customer , strange ! Basically they accept your request for cover send you a policy schedule and then if you’re unfortunate enough to have to make a claim they reject it and refer you to literature with different wording that you have never seen. Appears to be the nature as to how Nationwide conduct their home contents ins, Do Not Go this Home Contents Policy.

In life you can make mistakes some are minor and some cost you months of grief and even years of grief… Let me save you extra grief… Just run far far away from their huge overpriced premiums… Can’t organise a p up in a brewery… U r not getting a better service for the huge premium but a terrible terrible headache that they wont help you with if you ever have the awful misfortune of needing to make a claim on your policy… How dare you even try… Your life will become hellish in the process the claims handlers will lie about what you told them etc etc run run far away… By the way nationwide building society is v good… The home insurance is not the building society it is rsa totally different company beware!

Challenge to get money to cover repair work needed. Had to get a quote from another company to fight our case for needing more of a pay out. Also ended up in accommodation for months which was fine but had nationwide paid out sooner we could have been home sooner and they would have wasted less money on accommodation

Nationwide Building Society are undoubtedly, one of the finest Financial Organisations that you could ever deal with, especially for their ‘Customer Service’ , ‘Their Products’ & also, the way in which they explain all of their Services & Transactions, in a clear & easy to understand way. Dropped my new iPhone 12 and dented the casing (the only part exposed by the Apple case not going fully around the phone). Got a quote for repair and also replacement from Apple as the policy is new for old and the parts they use are refurbished (so second hand). Told to send it in so their repairer could fix as they apparently defo use new parts (when Apple said that there is no way to trace if they are new or refurb).

Unaccountable charlatans who talk to you when setting up insurance but when making a claim palm off onto a third party whose agenda is to pay out the least they can on behalf of nationwide. We ended up losing our life savings as they refused to pay out the full repair job when our bathroom had an emergency. They ask you to provide quotes but dismiss the amounts as you should use the cheapest options to do your work. The company they use to workout payment literally had an employee say to me ‘ If I can’t afford to have my bathroom done why should you?’ Such a horrific experience and I hold Nationwide responsible

Policy ok, prices reasonable. Engineers for repairs, electric/gas and home emergency, simply useless.

Potty around and say they can’t fix the job, needs to go on secondary team. Lots of chasing around. Just an overall ball ache
