Top 3 Classic Romantic Movies of all Time

Classic romantic movies had a signature role in the development of Cinema. These movies tend to give people what they really want. Modern romantic movies are just a glimpse of what classic movies have in their story. With time the taste changed, and the cinematography changed but the essence of romantic movies remains the same.

Woody Allen almost invents romantic comedy. Rob Reiner revived it with When Harry Met Sally. A smash hit that has inspired a thousand imitations of sucrose, this was another refinement. Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood For Love is perhaps the most powerful and traditional romantic novel of recent times. Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung are perfect examples of the seductively heartbreaking self-sacrifice shown by Trevor Howard, Ingrid Bergman, Celia Johnson, and Trevor Howard. Love will never be out of fashion.

The Classic Romance of all Time

These movies are the ones that we think you should definitely watch once in a lifetime:

The Apartment

After the success of Some Like It Hot, Billy Wilder, IAL Diamond, his co-writer, and Jack Lemmon, went on to make The Apartment. Double whammy! Two perfectly funny comedies in one. Wilder had kept the germ of The Apartment’s idea for years in his notebook. He had watched Brief Encounter, and written down the words “Movie about a guy who climbs into a warm bed left behind by two lovers.”

CC “Bud”) Baxter (Lemmon), is the poor sap. His career is booming, with each promotion following the next. But the secret to his success is that his apartment is lent out to company executives for their trysts. Each 45-minute slot is a separate one. Wilder makes the movie so fast that it’s easy to overlook the sleazy details. Then reality begins to dawn on Baxter when he realizes that Fran Kubelik, the chirpy elevator attendant, has been to his apartment in the company Fred MacMurray. Baxter’s question about how he finds out gives Wilder and Diamond the opportunity to show their ability to succinctly tell stories. One broken compact mirror is all that is needed to break his heart. They’re unbeatable at turning out these “moments” – witness also Baxter’s classic straining-spaghetti-through-a-tennis-racket scene, born out of Diamond’s realization that “Women love seeing a man trying to cook in the kitchen.”

These standout scenes do not hinder the film’s fluid, precise rhythm. Wilder shot the image in just 50 days and edited it in less than a week. He proudly stated, “We had three feet worth of film.” This film is funny and fat-free, well-paced, and played with a romantic ending that will make you swoon. It was nominated for five Academy Awards including best picture, best direction, and best screenplay. Wilder stated that it was “the picture [of my] with the fewest flaws.” It is a masterpiece that everyone else recognizes. Watch this fantastic romance-filled film for free on the Cinema HD v2 apk.

Breathless (A Bout de Souffle)

Humphrey Bogart, who played “Bogey”, in 1946’s The Big Sleep alongside Lauren Bacall (a beautiful, attractive daughter available for marriage), was Humphrey Bogart. Perhaps the Hollywood dream has never seen a more pure and wilder manifestation. We are here 15 years later, and Bogart has died. Worse, Hollywood is in its final years. Jean-Luc Godard arrives, half in love and half disapproving of the old mythology. Jean-Paul Belmondo is a brilliant jerk and will take off after Bogey.

Breathless was Godard’s first feature and his first demonstration of how to transform the Hollywood dream into reality. It was not only a way to display Godard’s hate relationship with Hollywood but also a sign that movies can be made almost as fast and cheaply as emails. Breathless, while it still feels modern and fresh, was created before modern technology.

It cost $48,000 for a four-page outline. A quarter of that was spent on Jean Seberg, who was a failure in Hollywood but was the hottest thing in Paris in 1960. She plays Patricia, an American woman who sells New York Herald Tribune to the streets. Belmondo plays Michel, an existentialist idiot, on the run after he shot a cop. The film is chaotic and his days are over. It’s like Charlie Parker, with the pace of the film so fast you wonder if the alto Sax will survive the next 16 bars. It’s impossible to believe it can work. The film was improvised as it went along. But Godard knew that it was time for him to treat his audience like dirt and his characters as shit. This casual malice became a monument. Watch it on Flixoid app.

Casablanca

Unspoken, the tremor in wartime romance movies is that the movie must address the feelings of war-stricken couples. It is not about whether they will survive but also whether love and desire are able to overcome the temptations of living apart. Another factor that is vital to romance and the age-old censorship in movies is that the desire for intimacy may be the strongest because it is impossible or forbidden.

Casablanca assumes that Rick (Humphrey Bogart), and Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), had some sex in Paris. However, in their awkward reunion in North Africa, sex is not renewed. Instead, Rick-Ilsa and Victor (Paul Henreid), must consider the final selection of only two of them to move forward. We now know what Rick’s decision was, even though we may wonder if Ilsa should have been making some of these decisions. The war effort is where the romantic or erotic energy subliminally becomes the best cause. Rick abandons Ilsa to fulfill his new commitment to the fight against fascism.

Casablanca is the movie version of romance, but it’s not true to life. It was nominated for the best picture Oscar. The film opened after the Allies had taken over Casablanca. In reality, the rates of divorce and infidelity increased quickly during World War II. Casablanca assured us that honor would not be compromised.
