Teamwork is not an exact science; however, psychology can give us some indications to comply with in order to improve collaboration with co-workers and promote an adequate climate to achieve success through the achievement of objectives.
What is teamwork?
Teamwork is the work carried out by several individuals with a common goal. To be considered teamwork or cooperative, it must have an organization that favors the joint development of work and not simply that each member of the team carries out a task to later join them into a whole.
PROMOTE “GOOD” STRESS
But does positive stress exist? Well, not only does it exist, but when we manage it correctly, we boost creativity and commitment.
Positive stress, or eustress, is that stress that stimulates us to face problems. It allows us to be creative, take initiatives and respond efficiently to those situations that require it.
Characteristics of eustress:
- Eustress motivates us
- It allows us to focus our energy on the goal
- It’s short term
- It feels like something exciting
- It feels like something we can handle
- Improve performance
HOW CAN WE PROMOTE POSITIVE STRESS IN OUR TEAM?
We are developing a work environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing ideas and collaborating, which tends to self-management, discussing ideas, and proposing recommendations.
Communication is, of all possible strategies, fundamental. Knowing the objectives clearly, as well as a broad job description at the beginning of each project, will make each of the components feel like a member of the team.
Promote the “We” make it clear that we have a common goal and that when success is achieved, it also belongs to everyone. Fostering the “we” makes collaboration infinitely superior: the team achieves, the team arrives, the team achieves, the individual collaborates in each task unconditionally for the common goal.
Promote the best of each member of the team, creating a motivated team that will have better results; for this, it is necessary to worry about thoroughly knowing the people who make up the group.
Create a sense of belonging and commitment to the company, establish bonds of trust by promoting celebrations for goals achieved, award ceremonies for efforts and results, making our colleagues feel special, increases motivation from ownership of life insurance.
Changing the way we give and receive criticism evaluating progress over too long periods may mean that a job well done is not praised on time or that constructive criticism is missed, not allowing early correction of errors.
It is not simply about evaluating for shorter periods; we must also change the way we give and receive criticism. The communication that we were already talking about as a priority within a team will allow the exchange of information in real-time and will facilitate the rapid solution of problems.
Time for continuous training, a fundamental strategy to provide the necessary security to face challenges. Addressing training needs means that we are not afraid of using new tools and knowledge that make our work more efficient.
If we focus on customer service, training is a top priority since it is the best bet to achieve quality in management.
